In anticipation of a National Register historic district nomination, Hanbury Preservation Consulting, in collaboration with the William and Mary Center for Archaeological Research conducted a reconnaissance survey of 211 properties containing 448 resources, including the downtown commercial area, the courthouse complex, residential neighborhoods, schools, cemeteries, churches, and a peanut processing warehouse. All resources were photographed and mapped, and a written description of each was added to the Commonwealth's V-CRIS survey database.
